Cannabis is an annual flowering plant that people consume for recreational and medicinal purposes. Cannabis plants are typically labeled as being indica or sativa, and the plants themselves possess chemicals called cannabinoids that provide different effects. The two most commonly found cannabinoids are as follows:
THC(Tetrahydrocannabinol)
– THC is the principal cannabinoid in cannabis and is chiefly responsible for
the psychoactive properties than cannabis possesses(read more here)
CBD(Cannabidiol)
– CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that is believed to provide both physical pain and stress relief (read more here)
Cannabis can come in many different forms and products. While the buds from a marijuana plant are available, cannabinoids can also be extracted into different forms of concentrates and oils. To do this a solvent or solventless extracting process is employed, the most common solvents process being BHO extraction.
Cannabis oils are often utilized to create tinctures. These tinctures are generally high potency and are intended to offer a strong experience when medicating, that is free of gluten, free of sugar, and requires no inhalation for consumption.
Cannabis flower and concentrates can also be utilized to create a vast selection of edible products. Edibles can range from low dosage 5-10mg products to 100mg+. Like tinctures, edibles offer an inhalation free experience when medicating.
Cannabis has numerous potential effects such as pain relief, stress/anxiety relief, improved sleep and many more potential uses for patients. While these benefits are commonly talked about, there is still much we do not know. We hope to see this change in the coming times as a result of H.R. 8454 aka the Medical Marijuana and Cannabidiol Research Expansion Act. (read more here)
As the two most popular cannabinoids THC and CBD often have some misconceptions between the two. THC is the main psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis plants that provides elevating effects, while CBD is the non-psychoactive compound that is thought to provide pain and anxiety relief.(read more here)
Vaporizing – cannabis flower can be ground and vaporized out of flower specific vaporizers. Concentrates are also vaporized through pens or dab rigs to achieve a very potent form of medication. Through the application of heat as opposed to an open flame, the cannabinoids in the flower or concentrates are activated more effectively for better medicating.
Edibles- Concentrate forms of cannabis can be incorporated into food to feel the effects of cannabis without ever smoking it. There are numerous edible options available today as it has become a very popular choice in consumption. Edibles do not typically have an immediate effect but can have a very potent and long-lasting elevation.
Topicals- Cannabis can amazingly be incorporated into different creams and lotions for use. It is thought that these creams tend to help with things such as joint inflammation, arthritis, and overall soreness relief.
While a green out can occur from overconsumption, overdosing on cannabis is impossible. There has never been one recorded fatal case of a cannabis overdose, however cannabis can impair judgment and coordination so make sure you are careful not to accidentally injure yourself when medicating with cannabis.
